Meet Andrea – New PhD in the UHV Tech Group

NQCP Life

Andrea joined NQCP as a student assistant in September 2023 and is now transitioning into a new role as a PhD student with our UHV Tech Group led by Jan W. Thomsen. We took the opportunity to sit down with her and discuss her team and the exciting project she’s working on.

Andrea

What is UHV Tech?

The UHV tech group is working in the intersection between several scientific fields, combining ultra-high vacuum technology with materials science, condensed matter physics, and atomic, molecular, and optical physics.

What is your PhD project about?

My project is centered on laser-enhanced fabrication for quantum devices. I'll be developing new tools and applying them here at NQCP to push forward advancements in quantum technology.

Why did you choose to pursue a PhD at NQCP?

My background is mainly in atomic physics and quantum optics, so the UHV Tech Lab felt like the ideal place to continue my work in these fields. I’ve also had the opportunity to work at NQCP as a student assistant and loved the environment and the people here, so it felt like a natural next step!

Thanks Andrea! We are very happy that you chose to stay with us for your PhD studies.
