Meet Andreas – New PhD in Algorithms and Applications

NQCP Life

Andreas has been at NQCP as a student since the start of the program in 2023. He is now stepping into a new role as a PhD student here at NQCP in our Algorithms and Applications Group.  We caught up with him to ask a few questions about his team and project:

What is Algorithms and Applications?

The Algorithms and Applications team works on exactly that: quantum algorithms and how to apply quantum computing to solve real life problems. We aim to develop practical quantum computing applications for life sciences and chemistry. Our work involves improving computational methods and trying to enable quantum computing from the software side.

What is your PhD project about?

I am working on developing models and improving quantum algorithms for chemistry and materials simulations. And I am also involved in outreach projects that aim to make quantum computing more accessible for future users such as biologists and chemists.

Why did you decide to do a PhD at NQCP?

I have been a part of NQCP from the very beginning, and I am excited to continue working here and seeing how the program evolves over the coming years. I am also excited to be part of a rapidly growing research group where we will welcome many new faces in the next couple of months.

Thank you for taking time to chat Andreas! We are happy to have you.
