NQCP Friday Life in Quantum - Susanne Toft & Gemma Solomon

How to avoid death by meeting

Abstract:
As part of our adventures in NQCP we find ourselves in a project where no one of us can succeed alone. We need to work as a team, and part of that process is making hard decisions together. Meetings are the universal tool for communal decision making, but they can too easily lead to frustration and a sense of “time wasted”, rather than a lasting conviction that the right decisions being made for the right reasons.

In this talk we will outline some of the theories and research around effective meetings (we’re not the first to face these challenges!). We will present some suggestions for strategies that teams can consider to make meetings in NQCP the high points in our work week. Because what could possibly be more exciting than productive debate with your friends and colleagues that delivers break-through solutions to challenging problems?

After the talk there will be exciting discussions, networking and refreshments in Fb7.
