Quantum Sensing for Bio-medical Applications

Measurements of electro-magnetic fields are at the core of a range of medical diagnostic techniques. It is desirable to continue improving the sensitivity of such measurements. However, quantum mechanics sets limits on measurement sensitivity of fields and forces often referred to as Standard Quantum Limits (SQLs). Those limits are due to a competition of quantum noise of the measuring agent, intrinsic quantum noise of the sensor and quantum backaction noise imposed by the measuring agent onto the sensor. In the talk I will describe some research directions of the recently launched Novo Nordisk Center for Biomedical Quantum Sensing aimed at developing techniques for overcoming the SQLs in biomedical diagnostics.

After the talk there will be exciting discussions, networking, and refreshments in MA-14.
