Neutral Atoms Pilot Line
The Team
The Neutral Atoms team at NQCP, headed by Stefan Alaric Schäffer, focuses on developing Neutral Atom-based qubit platforms, novel interaction schemes for quantum computing and programmable simulation using neutral atoms as qubits. They use ultra-cold atoms such as Strontium that can interact both through short-range and long-range interactions. They explore several different qubit candidates within the internal degrees of freedom of the atoms and develop open-source control hardware and high-performance, high-coherence laser assemblies for qubit control and interaction.
Our Focus
The Neutral atoms pilot line is pursuing the use of neutral atom qubits trapped in optical lattices with controlled short-and long-range interactions. The aim is to push the boundaries of atom-based quantum computing systems and to integrate neutral atoms into future hybrid quantum systems. Their work on this currently focuses on cavity-based interaction systems to mediate infinite-range interactions. The team will develop novel and fast read-write schemes in neutral atom platforms and use Analog quantum simulations for algorithm development in close collaboration with theory and algorithm teams. Additionally, the team works on how to use collective interaction for toggling quantum memory-to-readout operation.
Our Collaborators
The neutral atoms team is establishing a network of collaborators to further the research in neutral atom interactions and hardware development for atomic control. Collaborators include local researchers at NBI as well as the University of Amsterdam (the team of Prof. Florian Schreck) and University of Innsbruck (the theory group of Prof. Helmut Ritsch).
